Soon my site will expire, not that it matters much since I haven’t been able to put out an episode in quite some time. Do not fear dear internet, I shall return with a new show, one that is actually better, one that has structure, and more of me than you ever thought possible. The next show will be all ogg, so for all of you freedom hating Zune subscribers, you’re shit out of luck unless you want to convert it manually just for your dose of abuse from me and others.

So in the meantime enjoy whatever else you browse…no, not that site you dirty little animal, I mean real sites.

Joel “gorkon” McLaughlin, you are on my shit list buddy, want to know why?  Because I said so, that’s why.  I am randomly going to start hating people in the Linux podcast world because they are more successful than I am, and I’m starting with Gorkon.

Reasons why I no longer like Joel includes the following, he has several posts on Gear Diary which are pretty good.  He is on The Linux Link Tech Show, which I am jealous of, and he makes some good Chex Mix.

OK, there you have it Joel, that’ll teach you!  Also he’s a really nice guy, start being angry like me Joel!

EDIT:  Seeing all of these reasons just makes me not want to hate him now, you win this time Joel, but I’ll find something to be mad at you about!  Good day sir!

I’ll being with why I have not made a post in quite some time, and that is simply I don’t have internet in my apartment right now.  Things are pretty hectic seeing as me and my room-mate are moving in to a house and out of Crackhead Central. I had to make a choice and the choice of having a roof over my head and a peaceful place to stay won out over having the internet and buying the HTC Hero.

Now I will move on and tell you all as to why there hasn’t been a new SKT episode put out, same reason as above.

To those of you who emailed me asking where I have been and why the hell I’m being lazy / being a douche / possibly dead / stricken with a disease known as relationship, I appreciate it a lot really to know that the small amount of people who listen to this podcast (all 200) somewhat care or just really love to bust my balls.  Either way getting occasional emails and tweets from the community is always awesome.

Once we move I hope to have things sorted out, and I also hope to get back in to college this fall so I can have an adult life again.  Who would’ve thought that at 23 I’d be saying “man, I’m getting kind of tired of the party scene…” ever?  I for one am shocked.

So guys and gals keep the emails coming, keep up the tweets, dents, and if you know me personally a phone call would be nice once in a while too. Until next time, community, have a happy.

P.S. If anyone sees Klaatu let me know so I know he’s not dead.

I installed the imHuman captcha a while back, like a retard I didn’t test it out to make sure it worked correctly.  Needless to say it did not.  I found out when I was going to comment on a post made by threethirty and felt like an idiot when I couldn’t.  I added a new one this time, let’s hope it works.  So why did I add a captcha system to my little site?  200 spam comments a day is why!  I grew very very tired of it.

Nina has a nice big blog post about trying to get on Netflix Streaming Service and why DRM sucks

picture from Sita Sings the Blues

First I asked (Filmkaravan to ask the aggregator to ask Netflix) if Netflix could make a DRM exception for Sita. Unfortunately no such option currently exists in Netflix’s electronic delivery system. Possibly no other filmmakers have even asked for such an option. iTunes used to offer only DRM music, but eventually enough people – including savvy “content providers”? – demanded DRM-free channels that they now offer DRM-free music for sale along with Defective options (all iTunes movies carry DRM). Filmmakers lag far beyond musicians in understanding the Internet, so it may be a while before Netflix, Amazon, iTunes, and other online distributors allow our “content” in their channels without adding malware and spyware to our films.

I still wanted Sita to be in Netflix’s on-demand system. I want as many people to see Sita as possible; surely many viewers now rely on such a convenient delivery system to explore new films. Anyone who became a fan of Sita this way might still find the film’s web site, and learn how to download a free copy for themselves. Although Sita’s site states:

You are not free to copy-restrict (”copyright”) or attach Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) to Sita Sings the Blues or its derivative works.

Boing Boing’s Cory Doctorow reports on Michael Geist’s post about India’s new copyright bill which:

sounds like a pretty good piece of work: it declares private, personal copying to be “fair dealing” (like US fair use) and limits the prohibition on breaking DRM so that it’s only illegal to do so if you’re also violating copyright. That means that you can break the DRM on your iPad to move your books to your Kindle or vice-versa. It also makes it legal to make, distribute and sell tools to accomplish this.

The Telegraph in the UK is reporting that Scientists at the University of Montreal launched a search for men who had never looked at pornography – but couldn’t find any.

Here are some interesting quotes from the story:

“We started our research seeking men in their 20s who had never consumed pornography,” said Professor Simon Louis Lajeunesse. “We couldn’t find any.”

“Not one subject had a pathological sexuality,” he said. “In fact, all of their sexual practices were quite conventional.

“Pornography hasn’t changed their perception of women or their relationship, which they all want to be as harmonious and fulfilling as possible,” Prof. Lajeunesse added.

More from the story:

Prof Lajeunesse interviewed 20 heterosexual male university students who consumed pornography, and found on average, they first watched pornography when they were 10 years old.

Around 90 per cent of consumption was on the internet, while 10 per cent of material came from video stores.

Single men watched pornography for an average of 40 minutes, three times a week, while those in relationships watched it 1.7 times a week for around 20 minutes.
